Rome, Italy - Will Italy's airports' management services be privatised? (WAPA) - Today August 26, the Board of Directors of the Sicilian
province Messina will discuss, among other things in their agenda, the
issue regarding the disposal of "Sogas" shares owned, management
company of the strait's airport , whose fate is unreliable, given the
negative results emerged from the interim financial statements and the
failure to implement efficacious measures which could have improved
this unfavourable balance.
The path towards privatisation has been suggested, as in the case of other Italian airport terminals strategically located and with opportunity to develop, considering the level of current services: for example the port of Genoa, for which a bid to acquire 60% of its shares had been launched and mostly foreign companies responded to(the Argentinian company Corporacion America, Transdev , the Turkish Limak Yatirim and the Austrian Meinl Bank) and the airports of Puglia, according to a proposal from right-wing politic parties. In particular, the airport "Tito Minniti" registering an 8% increase in passenger traffic neither invested in, nor exploited the several user groups, such as the one from Messina: the journey between the airport and the port of Messina , launched in 2010, does not provide any trips that coincide with the first two flights departing to and the last two arriving from Milan and Rome and direct check-in services from "Minniti" have never been implemented despite continuous requests.
